Trackpad or left/right click not working on laptop – Windows 10

If your mouse suddenly is not working on your laptop after a Windows 10 update, you may want to try these tips.  First, hook up a USB mouse to your computer. Next try these steps –

  • Update your Synaptics, ELAN or trackpad driver from the manufacturer.
    • Uninstall and reinstall
      • If necessary, find the service and delete the service by using the SC delete command if necessary
      • ALWAYS reboot after installing or uninstalling
  • Use Synaptics drivers from Synaptics if necessary (if these apply)
  • Update your Chipset driver or use the Microsoft Chipset drivers
    • Use the Let Me Pick option when updating these drivers
  • Backup your files and perform a system restore – remember, this may affect programs

Note:  If this is a menu issue (menu or taskbar not working, see our post on fixing this issue.
