From help desk to an IT Security Officer

When you first start IT, you wonder how long you may be at a service desk job.   If you do your time, you’ll gain the experience that your company or others want.    We love telling our students’  stories about the growth in IT and they often stop by or call.

I’m always surprised by phone calls from past students who think of us and call to update us on their careers.  While we have a complex program,  we are with the students 30 hours each week for approximately 15 months and it doesn’t seem like enough.   With technology growing so rapidly, we can only give our students the tip of the technology iceberg.

Colt Lane came to our program about five years ago.   His call today reminds me of how IT people can really change their lives.  Highly motivated and with a desire to learn, Colt is now the IT Security Officer and IT Manager of Network Services at a large financial institution.  His professional growth from help desk to where he is at today is to be commended.  Now that is change.

Colt has grown so much professionally that when I look at him I  see a different person.  I  see someone who is a peer – someone who is tackling IT head-on, someone who is successful and someone who will continue to grow.
