Can be obtained from TCAT’s DreamSpark –
Note: you can use the trial software on Server and SQL if you do not have a Dreamspark account.
Files to use as demos:
Dual Core computer with 4 GB of RAM (Minimum)
Install VMWare Player and commit at least 30GB of HDD space, 1 CPU and 2 GB of ram (minimum).
Install Windows Server 2012 R2
Open Windows Server 2012 R2
Extract the SQL ISO into a folder on the Server
Click on Setup
Click on new SQL Server stand-alone installation
SQL Server manager will now be available for you to use. While I installed this on my work laptop, you must remember to monitor laptops for heat and resource utilization.
Using one of the resources below, you can substitute what you learn on these pages and try writing queries from data you import from the codeplex database (http://msftdbprodsamples.codeplex.com/releases/view/55330).

Running a basic query
Server Manager – if you want desktop icons on Server, you must open the server manager and add a feature (Desktop Experience).
If you right click on the desktop to use Personalize to add desktop icons, it will not be available. You must use the above wizard to add features (Desktop Experience to add icons such as Computer, Network, files and control panel). Personalize will become available after a reboot.
