SQL Management Studio is slow or hesitates

If your Microsoft SQL Management Studio is slow and/or hesitates, you can tweak your server by performing the steps below.

Open Internet Explorer and select Tools, Internet Options and click the Advanced Tab.

“Check for server certificate revocation” and “Check for signatures for downloaded programs” under the advanced options of Internet Explorer should be unchecked.

You should also navigate to the following registry key –

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Download

Make sure the registry key in the right pane and insure the CheckExeSignatures is set to no

You can also add the following line to the end of  your hosts file –     crl.microsoft.com

Add a switch to the Management Studio shortcut by using /nosplash :
Start > Programs > SQL Server 2005 or 2008 program group > ‘SQL Server Management Studio’ program.
Then, right-clicking and open the General tab, then select shortcut tab to add ‘nosplash’ switch.
Sample : “C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\Ssms.exe” /nosplash
