The specified server cannot perform the requested operation.

If you cannot gain access to a computer even though you shared out a folder, you may have to open the registry and perform the following actions on the destination computer.

  1. Click start->run  then type regedit.
  2. Go to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\LargeSystemCache and set the registry key to “1“.
  3. Go to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\Size and set the registry key to “3“.
  4. Click start->run then type services.msc. Restart server services.
  5. Try accessing the Windows 7 shared folder again from the opposite machine.
  6. Restart PC if problem still exists.

    Awesome!
    Was trying to connect to a Windows 7 share from a Windows 2000 Server machine and this saved me from pulling all my hair out!
