Change language in DD-WRT after flashing

During the upgrade to DD-WRT, I have had the router default to Chinese.  In order to change the language to English (or another language – DD-WRT supports 13 languages), the easiest way is to Telnet into the router and run the three commands below.

First enable the Telnet Client under Features (Programs and Features) in Windows.

  • Under the control panel in Windows, open Program and Features
  • Click on Add/Remove Features
  • Check the Telnet Client

After enabling telnet, go to a command prompt as an administrator and type the following:

open (IP address of router)
Login with root and your password
type the following:

nvram set language=english
nvram commit

Log in using a browser

Chinese language gone
