Seagate’s huge new 3TB drive won’t work on your PC – Computerworld Blogs

This article was posted on Computerworld and I have to disagree….  PC manufacturers along with leading operating systems will make modifications in order for larger drives to work…Great article in the fact that it informs users of the growing pains PC users face as storage devices grow.

From looking at those comments, it’ll be a SAS drive, which is server hardware. You won’t be able to run this on your PC at home anyway. Other than that, unless there is some physical limitation (SAS bus speed or something), it should just require a firmware upgrade.

In the old school days we had software that would allow drives larger than BIOS supported and we were able to use the larger drives. This will be a SAS drive apparently and with SATA a 6 gb/s and storage growing, we will have growing pains.
