Turn on your Firewall
Check file shares and make sure you are not sharing to EVERYONE
Do NOT use P2P file sharing or torrent software
Surf Safely
Encrypt your files with AxCrypt or Safehouse
Encrypt your flashdrive
Scan portable devices – flash drives and external drives
Backup your computer to another drive or use a secure online storage vendor

Check for Proxies and resetting your firewall and winsock

Open Internet Options under the control panel and check connection|Lan Settings and make sure the proxy checkboxes are not checked (Unless you use one)

Open the cmd prompt as an administrator and type the following
netsh advfirewall reset
– How to reset your Winsock and flush cache
Open the cmd prompt as an administrator and type the following
ipconfig /flushdns
nbtstat -R
nbtstat -RR
netsh int reset all
netsh int ipv4 reset
netsh winsock reset catalog
After running the commands
This will rebuild the tcp/ip protocol stack (fully)
reboot your computer
