Something to know about Firefox 3.5 – How to disable the geo-locating feature.

leave a comment »

Something to know before the release of Firefox 3.5: how to disable the geo-locating feature. &laquo…

Now I like Firefox but I don’t see a need for geo-locating if I’m not using social networks. To me, geo-locating can tell people where I’m at. Now think of the malicious use this could have. Call me paranoid but technology sometimes scares me. Go over and read this article on how to disable this feature

So You Are Running Limewire and Your Internet is Slowing Down

leave a comment »

Here’s an example of a computer that is using a ton of bandwidth and sharing its entire hard drive.  A very dangerous practice.   This was discovered on our WatchGuard Firewall this afternoon.  The computer (172.16.0.182 ) can be seen connecting to over 100 other computers.  This software was on a private computer that had connected to our wireless network.   The firewall notified us within moments after the connections took place.

Panasonic’s new toughbook was tested against several zoo animals to include a tiger and an elephant.  Max found this Forbe’s post and video.  I along with a billion other bloggers have to post this.  I just wish all laptops were built this way.

Great Article on Software for Keyloggers

leave a comment »

We just found one of these on a computer recently.  Although our network stays 99.99% virus and keylogger free, we still rarely find these on non mission critical computers.   This credit fully goes to Bill Mullins.  See his article here.

Fixing a Computer with A and W Root Beer

with one comment

Not only do I like A & W Root Beer, we just had a Dell XPS 200 that would power down from heat.  (The heatsink would not press against the processor)  We used a 1.5″ x 1.5″ piece of aluminum, some zinc oxide and wa-la back in business.  The piece of aluminum filled the gap between the heatsink and the processor.

AANDW

Hey, this is NOT the proper way to fix this, you should use a new heat sink…and paste
