Update…the fix below may and may not work….AVG is causing more internet problems at our facility.   We called for tech support and were on hold…hmmm…. After removing AVG – computers are getting back on the internet. (No Malware, No Viruses)… AVG has issues and after we reload, the machines are fine…

Yes James, you have internet….AND your pages are fully loading….hopefully AVG fixes this….

Note:  Cecil had to remove AVG and reinstall on several machines today…what is the deal???

Microsoft’s Salary Survey 2008

Education is important and so are certifications.  One critical area on the link’s picture shows no certs $80000+.  You have to remember, there are still old guys in the field without certs  with a ton of experience.  (I come from that era and I have went back, continued my education and picked up certifications.)

Virtualization – Get With It

leave a comment »

If you are not virtualizing, you should be.  Try VirtualBox when you are a beginner.  Your bios may require you to enable it (ask Matt or Bob – inside joke, outside readers).  Some one in class asked what other virtualization programs are available.  Here is Virtualization’s reader’s choice awards for virtualization software.  (by the way, Rick noticed the same thing I did, all of the IT publication magazines are publishing a ton of virtualization articles)

Information technology is going through a phase that is changing more than ever.  Computers are more powerful than ever.  With Multiple processors, memory cheaper than ever, hard drives larger than ever, multiple operating systems can be loaded effortlessly.   I have worked with computers for twenty plus years, it’s going to always change.

I hear the same thing all of the time.

“All you guys do is fix computers, right?”    (by the way, if you are not a geek, you won’t understatnd that!)

By the way, you are not a network administrator if you installed a router in your house. Your candid thoughts when answering them.

Say good-bye to HDD as you know them.  Technology is changing everyday and Seagate is proving this in 2009.  Article    My only concerns are: 1 TB for less than $150 and speed  – Prices will come down, but will the speed be there next year??
